John Green Works Closely with the Screenplay of "The Fault in the Stars" - He's a Huge Fan of Director Josh Boone

In a recent interview with The Atlantic's 1book140, novelist John Green was able to mention about his involvement in the movie adaptation of his best seller "The Fault in Our Stars."

author John Green

TA-1book140: I saw that there is a movie version in the works. I'd like to know your thoughts on it, whether you've been involved in any of the early stages ...

Yeah, I'm involved. They've shared every draft of the script with me -- the script is amazing, so I don't have a ton to say about it. I mean, I have a ton to say about it, but ... They've certainly listened to everything that I've said really closely. I feel like I've gotten to know the screenwriters quite well. And I'm really, really, really a huge fan of the director ... I think he's brilliant. I think he understands the book in a really profound way. I think he's really committed to the stories, and that's a special and rare thing out there in Hollywood.
There you have it guys, it's good to know that the author works pretty close with the screenplay. I hope they will be faithful in the adaptation!

Shailene Woodley and Hailee Steinfeld in Talks to Play Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars

THR (The Hollywood Reporter) has reported that Shailene Woodley, who will play Tris in yet another YA franchise "Divergent" and was in the movie with George Clooney in "The Descendants," and Hailee Steinfeld from "True Grit" and the upcoming "Ender's Game" movie as Petra, are in talks to play Hazel Grace Lancaster in  the movie adaptation of "The Fault in Our Stars."

Both Shailene and Hailee have received positive acting remarks because of their performances in their previous movies - Shailene for Descendants and Hailee for True Grit. I am quite sure either of the two can give justice to portraying Hazel in the movie. I just hope they wouldn't left out what's written in the book because it would be a total disaster!

Note: This is purely a rumor and no one has officially signed to take on the role. Let's just wait until Fox 2000 release any official statements.

Josh Boone on John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars" book:

“John's book came along just when I needed it,” Boone tells THR in a statement. “It pierced my heart and helped me deal with my grief. I laughed and cried and was left with an overwhelming feeling of hope. That our lives matter, that the love and kindness we share with others reverberates long after we're gone.

Josh Boone on the responsibility of adapting the book into the film:

“I feel the weight and responsibility to get this right and give his readers and devoted fans as pure a translation as possible … We hope to create a little infinity within this film that fans can revisit over and over."
